Introduction: Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! I am Lin Jiaqi form Shantou University Medical College. Now I am going to talk about Investigation on Factors Influencing the Acceptance of Abortion Rights-Case Study on Shantou University students. What I want to do today is to show our research outcomes and make suggestions based on our findings. l have divided my presentation into five parts: introduction to abortion rights, our research design, findings, discussion and acknowledgement. Now let’s begin. First of all, maybe you will ask “What is abortion rights?” The term “abortion rights” refers to female' s freedom to decide whether to have abortion or not, as abortion affects women' s health greatly both physically and mentally. And the promotion of abortion rights can better protect women's health. However, there is little research about students‘ opinions towards abortion rights. What’s worse, we noticed that our country does not interfere with voluntary abortions, and the legal system of abortion is chaotic. Therefore, our research aims to investigate key factors that influence the acceptance of abortion rights among college students, taking STU students as a case study, so that we can give advice based on our research findings. Research Design: Now let's move to our research design. A self-designed questionnaire was distributed via Internet with 215 valid response. The questionnaire includes 10 items, covering the cognition and understanding of abortion rights, and the reasons for their attitude towards abortion rights. And we used Spearman correlation coefficient and chi-square test to find out the Relevant factors towards people’s cognition of abortion rights. Findings: Here comes our result. Let’s see the Figures and table above. The shades of color represent the degree of support for abortion rights. Unsurprisingly, female and the people without religion belief have better understanding of abortion rights. We assume that this may be related to the women’s emphasis on abortion rights and religions’ criticism to abortion. Besides, in our questionnaire, we also asked the participants to provide reasons for their opinions on abortion rights. Some supporters said that it is pregnant women’s free choice that is inviolable, while others insisted that fetus should be considered as a form of life and it deserve its life rights. To better clarify their attitude, we stated two situations, which are strongly related to abortion rights, one is abortion for one-child family planning, the other is abortion for sex determination.
